Co-operative Party Records

The cataloguing and repackaging of the records of the Co-operative Party is now complete and a full description will soon be available to view on the Archives Hub.

These fascinating records cover the period 1917-1998, documenting the Party’s history from its beginnings in 1917 and throughout the twentieth century. The collection consists of over 700 files of records, including more than 300 files of photographs. The records include campaign material such as pamphlets and posters like the one above, the correspondence and working papers of key officials within the Co-operative Party and the minute books of Committee meetings at national and branch level. These minutes document some of the important events in the Party’s history and give an insight into the key topics of the day. The photographs consist of images taken at Co-operative Party Conferences between 1954 and 1996 and show the speakers, the conferences in progress, the local towns and even the members socialising. There are also files of photographs for prominent personalities within the Party and images of Party activities which include Summer Schools and trips abroad to China and Zimbabwe.

The Co-operative Party catalogue will be the thirtieth catalogue to be added to the Archives Hub by the National Co-operative Archive, which continues to make these important historical collections accessible to researchers.
