As part of her trip to Malawi, Sarah visited Mangoni Organic Coffee Growers Co-operative to share the fantastic news that they will soon receive further support to develop their seedling nursery, courtesy of a grant from Unicorn Grocery Co-operative in Manchester. You can read more about this here.
Mangoni is an agricultural co-operative specialising mainly in the production and marketing of organic coffee, plus other secondary crops such as soya and beans. They currently have just over 300 farmer members, with an additional 3371 farmers waiting to be supplied with seedlings.
Their main buyer of coffee is the East Africa Coffee Company, with Mzuzu Coffee Planters Co-operative Union currently requesting a share of the coffee too. Mangoni is currently unable to provide this due to limited production capacity, however the seedlings supplied through the funding from Unicorn will allow all this to change!
