A Brief History of Photography
Images generated by photography are taken for granted in today’s colourful life, but took over two thousand years to develop into a reliable process. When in the 19th Century the early pioneers started, a Rochdale man was central to getting it established with Royal approval.

Mike Davis’ talk, ‘A brief history of photography’ provides a background up to the beginning of the digital age.

The River Roch
Brennan Neild presents an audio-visual show that covers the River Roch from its starting point up on the moors through Rochdale and follows it down to the River Irwell. See modern day photographs with commentary including maps of Rochdale from 100 years ago!

A talk by Gary Heywood Everett-
This presentation tells the story of how the first WEA tutorial class in Rochdale 1908 came into being, the roots of worker education in the town, who the students were, and what some of them came to become. Drawn from the mills and often the poorest neighbourhoods in Rochdale, this experimental group of students were indeed pioneers of worker education.
